If you are planning your wedding and would like an occasion with a difference there are now some spectacular ways to have a memorable and unusual ceremony with a bit of excitement thrown in! Your guests may not thank you but to give them a day they will never forget think about trying one of the following options for your special day:
Get Married Underwater
Yes you can actually get married underwater! Many exotic destinations are now offering such ceremonies for intrepid couples either in the ocean or in an aquarium. The details of the event vary from place to place and you may need to be a qualified diver or provide your own equipment but some venues provide everything you need to take the plunge. Vows are normally undertaken by the showing of boards but can be performed using audio equipment in the masks. It is obviously a bit tricky to take your entire congregation down with you but you may need witnesses to dive if these are not provided and some organisers offer an audio or video feed of the proceedings to the rest of your guests.
Riding a Coaster
Yes that’s right! You can get married whilst riding a roller coaster. Talk about the ups and downs of marriage, well here you can start as you mean to go on! Couples can take their vows whilst the coaster is in motion with a celebrant or priest sitting behind them. Your guests can even come along with you although they may not appreciate the trip! The bride will have to be careful about her veil and tiara but it does all add a new meaning to the idea of being nervous about your wedding!
Dropping from the Sky
For real adrenaline junkies it would be hard to top getting married during a skydiving adventure. Your vows can be taken on the ground before you fly, in the aircraft before you jump or mid-flight by a skydive preacher. You can even consider this as an option if you haven’t jumped before as many facilities offer tandem jumps for your ceremony. Your guests will miss the vows but can wait on the ground to watch you arrive back in style!
Going to the Dogs
If you want a white wedding with a difference then several resorts afford the opportunity to get married whilst dog sledding on the winter snow. Couples can ride to a scenic spot of their choice and take their vows before a romantic sled ride back to their reception. There is often even room for a couple of witnesses to accompany the happy couple on their journey. For an even more exotic ride, think about Lapland where you can arrive at your ceremony by reindeer sleigh!
On The Slopes
A mountain resort provides a beautiful backdrop for a wedding all year round but if you are an all action sort of couple then consider taking things a bit further and get married whilst actually on your skis. There are several resorts where you can take your vows at the top of a mountain and then ski down to your reception. Your guests can join you in the skiing or descend via the lifts or even fly in and out by helicopter. If you are thinking of donning your snow boots for the occasion then think carefully about your choice of wedding dress!
A Wedding with Altitude
If seeing spectacular scenery or a world famous attraction from ground level not enough for you then take to the skies in a helicopter for a better view and say your vows whilst you are in the air! Many tourist destinations including Las Vegas, Niagara Falls and New York have helicopter services that include wedding packages. There will be room for the happy couple, a celebrant and sometimes a couple of witnesses and you may have the opportunity to land at your reception venue after the flight.
There are some people for whom even a roller coaster or helicopter ride just isn’t exciting enough! For the truly intrepid there will soon be the option of marrying in space. Virgin Galactic intend to offer a marriage ceremony as an option on their flights with the possibility of Richard Branson conducting the ceremony himself. Before you get excited at the prospect of a wedding literally out of this world be aware that a couple would have to pay $400,000 for their seats or $1 million to charter the aircraft if they wish to take 4 guests with them. Oh well it was just a thought!
There are many exciting ways to have a wedding with a difference and these are but a few. If you can’t afford a wedding in space then incorporate your ceremony into a special holiday or get married enjoying one of your favourite activities. You will savour every moment and your guests will love the difference!
